Resources

Thank you for visiting the YONI SHAKTI resources page. I have here made available a range of written, visual and audio material to support understanding and practical encounter with the yogic and tantric practices shared in my book Yoni Shakti. In particular I am keen to empower readers who resonate with the messages at the heart of the book to spread those messages through, for example, sharing the Introduction and the Womb Yoga Manifesto with those friends, studio-owners and yoga teachers in their lives who may need to receive these messages. The practice guides are extracts from the book describing some key techniques of Womb Yoga. The complete set of ten Yoga Nidra practices to support the stages of our lives as women are also available to download from this page.

I hope that this material is of value to you on your yoga journey. In order for the materials to be widely accessible, I have, (with the exception of the book herself), chosen not to charge for any item. Instead, I have simply offered them for free download. If you value the materials, then I invite for your to contribute whatever feels appropriate through the contribute page. These contributions reflect the value you place on the material, so please pay whatever you feel you want to. Monies received through this site are used to support the maintenance and updating of the site, and to pay for the additional design work and sound engineering involved in rendering the material beauteous, pleasing and useful.

Consider this a matter of trust and honour:
I trust that if you value this work you will honour it with an appropriate donation.

THANK YOU

Downloading instruction/help

In order to access these files you first need to "add them to your cart" as you would with most online shops, and in the process use your email address and create password of your choosing. During the checkout process you will be given an opportunity to add your contribution. Finally you will simply need to come back to this page (and login on the right hand side if neccesary) and the download links will become active (you can click on them).

To download for offline use

To save them to your computer you either need to hold down ctrl and click on them on a mac, or right click on them on a pc to bring up a menu, and select "Save Link As..." or similar and choose where on your computer to save them. Alternatively just click them and then go to file->save page as/save as. Clicking and holding on a tablet can provide options to save the file, but not always, if you have difficulty that way we suggest you use a computer.

Audio file special instrucitons

The yoga nidra tracks are mp3 audio files. To use them, on my computer I would save it to the desktop, and then drag it to itunes, and then sync it to my ipod for easy offline listening, but you may have a different method that you prefer. Please be aware that we have had some reports of the yoga nidra audio files not playing to the end when listening without first downloading to your computer, which in the middle of a meditation can be a bit diffcult for the meditator. They can work online depending on your, and our interntet connection at the time. For this reason, we always recommend downloading to your computer first and listening offline.

Yoga Nidra 6: Thanksgiving and Grieving (postnatal recovery, transformation and adaptation - Chinnamasta)

Chinnamasta

This forty-one minute yoga nidra practice holds psychic and emotional space to honour the need for thanksgiving, grieving and healing at every dimension of being. It was initially created with the intention to provide a healing space for women in postnatal recovery (after live births, or after miscarriages or terminations), but in fact it has proved valuable for women at any key moment of transformation, where there is a need to acknowledge with kindness and compassion the deep changes we may have experienced. It is a recording of the practice described in Yoni Shakti pp 448-9. I hope it guides you to your own capacity to integrate transformations in your life.

Yoga Nidra 7: Being with not Knowing (perimenopause and the inevitability of change - Bagalamukhi)

Bagalmukhi

This forty minute yoga nidra practice is intended to provide support as we encounter the inevitability of change. It helps us to be with uncertainty and to encounter loss. In particular it invites insight into the nature of perimenopausal experiences. The central image is of being at the centre of the womb-rose room, as each petal detaches and blows away. This image and the quality of feeling that surrounds it arrived in my heart during a practice of yoga nidra as I was writing the Bagalmukhi / perimenopause chapter of Yoni Shakti in the writer in residency cottage provided by the Hosking Houses Trust (thank you to Sarah Hosking!). This is a recording of that practice as described on pp 450-1 of Yoni Shakti. I hope that it brings comfort and understanding during any period of loss and change.

Yoga Nidra 8: Self-anointing ritual (embracing power, menopause and the confidence to speak one's own truth - Bhairavi)

Bhairavi

This forty minute yoga nidra was created to dignify and honour the experiences of menopause as a powerful spiritual initiation. The central experience of the self-anointing is rooted in a ritual meditation that was part of the spirituality module of Alexandra Pope's Women's Leadership Apprenticeship 2012. The experience remained vividly with me and returned as the perfect nidra practice when I was writing the menopause chapter of Yoni Shakti. This is a recording of the practice described on page 451-2 of Yoni Shakti, and it has been valued not only by the menopausal and perimenopausal women with whom I have shared it but also by younger women seeking to affirm self-confidence and trust in their own power.

Yoga Nidra 9: Out of the Smoke (touching the power close to the bone - Dhumavati)

This thirty-nine minute yoga nidra invites you to connect with the deep power close to the bone, the power we access when everything else seems to be falling apart. The nidra connects to the grandmother energy of Dhumavati, and to everything we learn through suffering, difficulty and challenge. I hope you find that this practice gives strength and clarity of purpose. This version of the practice was specially recorded for you in my own yoga studio in Stroud. The practice is described on page 453 of Yoni Shakti).

Yoga Nidra 10: In the Yoginis' Temple

This twenty-two minute practice offers an experience of welcome and of deeply restful healing in the temple of the yoginis. The practice arrived to me during my research for the early history chapters of Yoni Shakti, when I developed a powerful dream connection with these temples. The practice was shared in a variety of different forms in Bristol and Brussels during 2011-12 with groups of yoginis who had very positive experiences during this yoga nidra, and so I am very happy indeed to be able to share it with you. I have many wonderful stories to share about it! I hope it nourishes you at every dimension of being. This intimate version was specially recorded in my studio in Stroud, in the presence of the Ten Mahavidya Yantras that you can visit on this very site www.yonishakti.co/yantras The practice is described on pages 454-9 of Yoni Shakti.
